Learning Support Assistant - September 2026
We are looking for a committed individual with a passion for helping pupils succeed. The successful applicant will support pupils with a range of mild Specific Learning Difficulties and neurodiversity, most commonly dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD or ASC.
Thames is a thriving mainstream and diverse independent secondary school located next to Clapham Junction station, in a brand new, purpose built premises. A recent CReSTeD inspection report stated: “Thames should be a blueprint for all schools aiming to meet the needs of mainstream students, alongside those with additional learning needs.” The SEND department consists of a number of highly qualified learning support teachers and learning support assistants.

The role:
To support individual students to access their full learning potential and assist them in achieving their personal outcomes
To work flexibly, with patience, understanding and kindness, taking into account the individual needs of pupils and adapting to circumstance
To support the subject teachers in the delivery of their planned lessons and personalised learning for some of our pupils with special educational needs or disabilities.
To assist with the carrying out and recording of appropriate assessment of these pupils
Working effectively with the SENDCo, subject teachers and specialist staff to contribute to the records of these pupils’ progress
Assist classroom teachers with the development and provision of resources
The successful candidate will:
Be educated to Level 3 or above
Be a creative, inventive and dedicated practitioner with a real passion for supporting pupils to achieve their best
Be confident working within a cloud-based IT system
Have an exceptional eye for detail
Be excited by the school’s vision and respect the school’s values.
