Trip to Morocco and the Atlas Mountains

In April, 12 of our Year 10s and 11s flew to Morocco for a five day trip that was of particular interest to those studying Geography. Led by Mrs Maddan and Mr Li, the trip was packed full of amazing experiences. In Marrakech they visited the medina, the Gardens of Menara, the Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa, the largest Islamic college in the Maghreb. Heading up into the Atlas Mountains the next day, they learnt about the village irrigation and drainage systems and hiked for several hours in the beautiful mountain scenery. After an overnight stay at a fabulous hotel (with pool and incredible views) in Imlil they returned via Lake Lalla Takerkoust and the Agafay Rocky Desert. One of the highlights of the trip was lunch under a nomad tent and an hour’s camel ride. Back in Marrakech on the final day, the group had a cooking lesson with a local woman, and cooked their lunch of chicken tagine. During several visits to the souks, the pupils honed their negotiation skills, and are now expert hagglers - apologies to all parents!
