Year 7s at the Natural History Museum
Our Year 7, Thames pupils visited the Natural History Museum with Mr Stileman and Mrs Maddan to deepen their geographical knowledge. In their Geography lessons, Year 7 have been looking at hazards and natural disasters, so they were very excited to discover more about volcanoes and earthquakes in the museum.
They viewed displays on types of volcanoes and the mechanics of an earthquake, they tried the earthquake simulator which recreated a tamer version of the 1995 earthquake in Kobe, Japan, and got ‘hands on’ with models of the Earth's layers. Year 7 were also treated to an initial taste of later KS3 and KS4 topics including weathering, sedimentation and the physical, chemical and biological processes which shape the rock cycle.
Learning aside, it was a lovely sunny trip and it is a joy to see the pleasure Year 7 derive from a bus journey through the capital!
