Admissions

Parents choose Thames for many reasons: small classes, a broad and highly flexible curriculum, academic results, strong pastoral care, personal attention, co-curricular opportunities and above all excellent teaching.

Our admissions process involves getting to know both you and your child. We take care to create an honest and open process, seeking to understand your child’s aspirations and how they could thrive at Thames.

Pupils are inspired to aim as high as possible. Our most academically able pupils achieve top grades across many subjects whereas others who are more gifted visually or in performance may take multiple arts based GCSEs to hone the skills that will open the doors to their aspired careers. Past GCSE pupils have secured places at London’s most prestigious sixth forms whilst A level students often progress to Russell Group Universities or highly sought after arts colleges.

Our excellent inclusion of neurodiverse pupils in a mainstream setting is recognised by the Council for the Registration of Teaching Dyslexic Pupils (CReSTeD) whose consultant described Thames as a ‘blueprint’ for all schools aiming to meet the needs of mainstream pupils alongside some with additional learning needs. Neurodiverse pupils are often highly creative and take full advantage of the exceptionally high standard of our visual and performing arts departments. Others may be gifted in more traditional academic areas and take advantage of the extension opportunities offered in subjects like Maths, Science, History and English. By providing the correct strategies, neurodiverse pupils achieve highly and inspire others.

Whilst attending a Church or professing a Christian faith is not a requirement, every pupil and family must feel they can support our Christian ethos and be prepared to approach all activities with an open mind and attitude, supportive of living out a Christian lifestyle.

If you think that Thames might be the right school for your child, we encourage you to request a prospectus, email our admissions team at admissions@thameschristianschool.org.uk or call us on 020 7228 3933 to book into one of our open mornings where you can have a tour with one of our pupils and meet our staff. Finally both the applicant and the applicant’s parents or carers will be interviewed with a senior member of staff. All applications are considered on a case by case basis and handled in confidence.

Thames is a mainstream school offering a GCSE and A level curriculum with recognised provision for neurodiverse pupils. Expectations of behaviour and personal responsibility are high. If you wish to discuss your child’s needs or any reasonable adjustments they may require please make an appointment for an informal discussion with the SENDCo at one of our Open Mornings. The school is usually unable to provide for pupils who require an alternative curriculum.

All applications are handled in complete confidence and the decision of our Head is final. The school is not obliged to state reasons for rejection of an applicant. For further information please call the school on 020 7228 3933.

Scholarships are available annually to pupils entering the school at the beginning of Year 7, Year 9 or Year 12. These awards are made without regard to parental income and are usually worth up to 20% of the fees.

A limited number of means tested bursaries are available in accordance with the Bursary Policy. These are subject to the school’s ability to fund them within the context of its overall budget.
