As part of our Sixth Form leadership programme our Year 12 students organise a collection for the local Wandsworth Food bank for the end of the summer term. This initiative is run to coincide with the Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays, season when families are at their most stretched.
For this Summer’s drive Year 12 asked for each year group to bring in donations up to the value of £3. Year 7 were asked to bring in a toothbrush and/or toothpaste, Year 8 – deodorant, Year 9 – suncream and Year 10 – Instant Coffee. These items are specifically requested by the bank to make sure they have a balanced mix of essentials. Thames staff also contributed to each year group’s collection.
These generous donations were collected over the last two weeks of term and then driven by Oscar, Year 12, to the food bank today. Whilst there, one of the food bank team explained to the Year 12s how and why the food bank operates, including helping create solutions to get users back to stability and income.
Our thanks goes to our school community for their valuable contributions. These have been gratefully received by the food bank and will support our local community!
