“Outstanding!” and “Amazing!” were just some of the audience reactions to the school show, ‘Curtain Up!’, put on by more than 50 pupils at Thames Christian School. Watched by a combined audience of more than 400 over three performances , this special end of year musical theatre show formed part of the school’s 25th anniversary celebrations taking place this year. It comprised a revue of 25 well-known songs from musicals, including many that the school has put on since its foundation.
All the songs were taken from a century of musical theatre (1920s to 2020s) spanning musical eras from Vaudeville to Golden Age, to Contemporary. Some of the musical favourites sung included The Greatest Show, Anything Goes, Consider Yourself, Send in the Clowns, Mama I’m a Big Girl Now, and SIX.
Rachael Smith, Producer and Choreographer, said: “We were delighted that so many came to enjoy the outstanding performances of our talented and committed students who put on a masterclass of singing, dance and movement and in full costume. “Carefully curated and directed by our excellent Drama and Music departments, they showed such dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment in three performances – a matinee and two evening performances”.
A huge well done to our phenomenal cast and crew, from those in the stage lights to those behind the scenes and the musicians. For all the work that has gone into the show since auditions in January, we are so proud of all our pupils for their commitment, work ethic, enthusiasm and support of each other. Behind every successful show lies countless hours of dedication from pupils and staff. From the crafting of costumes to the creation of props, backstage management to technical coordination, so much vital work happens away from the spotlight.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, skills and passion to bring this production to life. Now, on to next year’s!
