“The school creates an environment in which all pupils feel included. As a result pupils feel that their school is somewhere that they can be themselves”

Sport

The Thames sports programme aims to develop five specific characteristics: problem solving, proactivity, resilience, communication and teamwork. We achieve this through practical Physical Education sessions and sports fixtures.

Teams regularly represent Thames in matches and tournaments, as well as competing in regional and national Independent Schools Association, borough and London-wide competitions, with recent success in swimming, cross country and athletics. In rugby, pupils are coached by an ex-professional and some have been scouted to play at county and national level.

Sports afternoons are divided into three strands: traditional team sports, such as football, rugby and netball; individual sports like badminton, athletics, tennis and table tennis; and individual sports such as self defence and fitness. In addition pupils have up to two further hours of PE.

Facilities include 4G all-weather Astroturf pitches at Falcon Park, grass pitches on Wandsworth Common, two fully equipped sports halls at Battersea Sports Centre and Caius House and King George’s Park tennis courts. Gyms used include CrossFit Shapesmiths, Caius House and Battersea Sports Centre.

A wide range of sports is offered including:

Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Circuit training, Cross country, CrossFit, Dance, Football, Gymnastics, Kwik cricket, Netball, Padel, Rugby, Tennis, Table tennis

“A physical education (PE) program in and beyond the timetable enables pupils to develop skills as well as a passion and interest in some sports. Regular lessons in the curriculum contribute to pupils’ physical development and give them the opportunity to understand the importance of exercise as part of a balanced lifestyle.”
