Our Lower Sixth 3D Design and Textiles students came together this week for a full day of learning enrichment.
Mr Orchardson, Head of 3D Design said: “The students had a great day both visiting the Material Matters exhibition that forms part of London Design Festival, as well as an excellent talk from a former Thames Christian pupil who is pursuing her passion of Design through Architecture to degree level.”
London Design Festival
Our Year 12 Textiles and 3D Design pupils visited the Material Matters exhibition at the London Design Museum. This forms part of the 2026 London Design Festival that showcases sustainable use of materials by contemporary designers. They observed innovative products made that included recycling old television screens transformed into sculptural lighting; worktops manufactured from used coffee cups; and discarded T-shirts that have become acoustic panels.
Studying Architecture Talk
3D Design students in Years 12 and 13 enjoyed a talk from recent Thames alumni, Cecilia, who is currently studying Architecture at the University of Bath. They were able to see some of the high-quality work she’s been making and learned more about her experiences of university life. Her passion for Architecture was a great advert for the subject, and her talk forms part of an ongoing series of talks and trips that help Sixth Form pupils consider different career pathways. Other events in the year will include 1:1 appointments with a specialist careers advisor.
