The music department is run by an experienced teacher and musician with a PhD in Music Composition.

In Key Stage 3 pupils gain a broad knowledge of different cultures, styles and traditions of music. Key Stage 4 pupils study GCSE music, a course that includes both theory and practical work. The increasing significance of music technology is accommodated through the use of Sibelius on Mac computers which pupils utilise when composing.

Choir, ensembles and band develop pupil’s gifts as part of the clubs programme. They also have opportunities to perform in productions, music evenings and concerts. Some pupils play in orchestras and musical groups outside school and have played at the Royal Festival Hall and in several European cities.

Visiting instrumental teachers offer individual private tuition in a wide variety of musical instruments including strings, piano, woodwind, drums, voice, guitar, bass guitar and brass.
